Is it time for <\/span>removing a door handle<\/b>? There may be several reasons for removing a door handle. It could be that they have become worn out to look at, or maybe they have started to hang around a bit. Maybe you just want to <\/span>change the door handle <\/b>to better suit your interior design style.<\/span><\/p>\n

To<\/span> remove and replace door handles<\/b> is fortunately a manageable project. To make it as easy as possible for you, S\u00f8e-Jensen & Co. has made a clear guide that explains step by step how to disassemble your door handles. <\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s how you do it:<\/span><\/h2>\n

When removing door handles, it is important that you are careful not to damage the surface of the door. Removing a door handle is fairly simple, and the only tool you need is a Phillips screwdriver. <\/span><\/p>\n

First of all, remove the two screws that hold the door handle in place on one side of the door. <\/span><\/p>\n

Both handles are removed along with the plate that covers the hole in the door. Here there is a square steel pin which connects the two buttons and slides into a square hole in the lock. This usually comes out with the buttons.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, if the latch stays in, push it out. Sometimes the lock slides easily out of the edge of the door. Other times, you will need to remove the two screws that are attached to the door edge. Then remove the two screws that hold the door frame plate in place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now the door handle is removed and you can put a new one on. Here it is a really good idea to measure the distance from the center of the large hole in the door surface to the door edge. You should do this to make sure that your new door handle fits the dimensions of the door.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you need to mount a door handle with a lock, clarify which side of the door locking mechanism is on before you buy a new door handle. Door handles are not reversible, so if you want to have the lock on the inside of a room, you need to check whether it is on the right or left when the lock is facing you.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Installation of new door handle<\/span><\/h2>\n

Once you have found a door handle that fits the measurements, you can begin<\/span> assembling the door handle<\/b>. If you need a lock for the door, you must first find out which lock plate you need.<\/span><\/p>\n

Depending on which mortise you have on your door, ie. the carved notch the lock sits in, you may need to replace the typical rectangular plate with a round one. You may need to remove one with a straight screwdriver and then place the new round plate on the lock.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then slide the lock into the edge of the door. If it has a rectangular plate, secure it with the two screws provided in the package.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once done, you can begin<\/span> assembling the door handle<\/b>. One half of your new door handle will have the square steel pin. Here, half is inserted first in the door, and then the square pin is placed through the locking mechanism. Adjust the other half of the door handle to fit the square pin and screw holes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now attach the new door handle with the two screws provided in the kit. If the door handle does not cover the existing screw holes or cavities, etc., you should fill these with wood putty. Here you must remember to sand the surface and possibly. paint for a nice finish before mounting the door handle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once fixed, you can attach the new impact plate to the door frame with the screws provided. It may be necessary to enlarge the cut-out for the locking plate, which can be done with a sharp chisel. If this is not necessary, you have now finished fitting your new door handle. <\/span><\/p>\n
