When a<\/span> door handle hangs<\/b>, it is both annoying and impractical as it can make it difficult to close the door properly. When a door handle hangs<\/span> this is usually due to one of the following things: that the rosette around the handle is loose, or that the handle itself is loose on the door handle pin. It can also be due to the fact that the spring that is to hold the handle up is slack or completely broken.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortunately, there are some issues that are easy to fix.<\/span><\/p>\n

To tighten a loose rosette:<\/span><\/h2>\n

If your door handle hangs because the rosette is loose, luckily it’s easy to fix. Sometimes you can just tighten the screws. If the rosette is loose due to wear and tear, it may be necessary to replace the screws.<\/span><\/p>\n

In most door handles today, the screws are continuous from rosette to rosette. In old filling doors with old-fashioned locks milled into the wood, they instead sit on opposite sides of the door. <\/span><\/p>\n

If there is only very little wood to screw the rosette into, it may be a good idea to screw the rosette loose first. Then turn it, and then the screws can be screwed into some whole wood.<\/span><\/p>\n

If there are many holes in the door, it is recommended that you unscrew the rosette completely and use some wood putty to fill the holes. When the filler is dry, the rosette can be screwed on again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Loose door handle stick<\/span><\/h2>\n

If the handle is loose due to the door handle pin, which is what goes through the door, you can also try tightening the screws.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alternatively, the door handle pin may be worn. For this you can buy some square sleeves (sleeves) or replace the whole pin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Slack or broken spring<\/span><\/h2>\n

If the spring holding the handle up is slack or broken, it can be replaced. It probably requires you to stop by a locksmith to buy a new spring.<\/span><\/p>\n

To replace the existing spring, it requires that you first go into the lock case.<\/span><\/p>\n

To enter the lock case, first remove the door handle. If you are in doubt about how to do this, read our second guide, which explains step-by-step how to disassemble a door handle<\/a> .<\/span><\/p>\n

When the door handle is removed, remove the cylinder. On the lock case itself, ie where it is screwed into the door, there is a screw at the top and another at the bottom. It is these screws that hold the lock case to the door. There is also a screw that holds the cylinder in place. This is the screw you need to grab.<\/span><\/p>\n

This screw must be screwed a few turns to the left, after which the screw is pressed in again. Do this a few times until the screw can no longer be pressed in. <\/span><\/p>\n

Then put the key in the cylinder and turn the key. Pull slightly outwards until you stand with the cylinder in your hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now you need to have the knob off, which sits on the inside of the door. Typically, it will sit on a long plate with four screws that you will need to unscrew. From here, the lock case can be unscrewed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lock case is typically assembled with 5-6 screws that you unscrew. Carefully remove the lid from the lock and inside you will find the spring, which you can now replace.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is important that all the steps are carried out carefully, as you have to reassemble it all in reverse order afterwards.<\/span><\/p>\n
